Terms of service

What Edgeworth is

Edgeworth is a marketplace where readers buy, sell and trade special edition books.

Edgeworth is not the seller. When you buy a book you are buying it from another member, and when you sell one you are selling it to another member. Edgeworth handles the payment, the shipping label and the rules below, but the book itself is between the two of you.

You must be 18 or older to use Edgeworth.

What it costs

Sellers pay nothing. You keep your full asking price.

Buyers pay a buyer protection fee of $1 plus 5% of the item price, and the cost of shipping. Both are shown before you pay, and the total you see at checkout is the total you are charged.

Trades are free of any Edgeworth fee. Each person pays for their own shipping label.

What buyer protection covers

Your payment is held by Edgeworth until the book reaches you and a three day window has passed. The seller is not paid before that.

If the book never arrives, arrives damaged, or is not what was described, you can report a problem from the order. Reporting a problem pauses the seller’s payment while we look into it.

If a seller does not ship within five days, the order cancels automatically and you are refunded in full.

Buyer protection does NOT include authentication. Edgeworth does not inspect, verify or authenticate any book. Signatures, editions and condition are described by the seller, and we do not check them.

Selling

Describe your book honestly, including its condition and whether a signature is genuine, digital or a bookplate. Photographs should be of the actual book you are sending.

Ship within five days of a sale. Use the shipping label Edgeworth provides, so the package can be tracked.

You are paid three days after the carrier marks the package delivered, unless the buyer has reported a problem. Payouts are made weekly through Stripe.

You may refund a buyer in full or in part from the order at any time. A refund comes out of your payment for that sale.

Trading

A trade is agreed between two members. Each of you ships your own book and pays for your own label.

A trade is complete when both people confirm their book arrived. Until then both books stay reserved and cannot be offered to anybody else.

Edgeworth does not hold money in a trade and cannot refund one. If a trade goes wrong, report it and we will look at it, but there is no payment to reverse.

What may not be listed

Books and bookish items from subscription boxes only. No counterfeit or pirated copies, no digital files, no items you do not physically have.

Nothing illegal, nothing stolen, and nothing that breaks the law where either of you lives.

We may remove any listing and close any account that breaks these rules.

Behaviour

Treat other members decently. Harassment, threats and abuse are not tolerated.

You can block any member, which hides each of you from the other, and you can report anyone or anything from their profile or listing.

We read every report.

Your account

You are responsible for what happens under your account.

You can delete your account at any time from the You tab. Completed sales are kept as financial records with your name removed, because we are required to keep them. Everything else goes.

You cannot delete your account while a sale or trade is still in progress, because somebody else is waiting on it.

Where we stand

Edgeworth is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or free of faults.

We are not responsible for the condition, authenticity or description of any book, because we never see it. Our responsibility is limited to the payment protection described above.

These terms are governed by the laws of Iowa.
